Micro-transmission

0302002-130

[DEFINITION]
A mechanism for transmitting motion or power in micromachines.

[DESCRIPTION]
In the field of micromachines where extreme miniaturization is required, even though the mechanisms and components of a structure and form are similar to that of conventional ones, expected performance can not be obtained if the scale effect is not considered. On the contrary, miniaturization of mechanisms may be beneficial because various physical/chemical phenomena and material properties that are overlooked in our familiar world or are considered to be unable to apply to the conventional machines can be exploited. Some researches on the physical/chemical phenomena, material properties and the scale effect in the microscopic world are expected to bring about new micro-transmission mechanism fit for micromachines.
