Micromachine Summit

The Micromachine Summit provides a Micro-Nano Technology snapshot to worldwide industrial, academic and government initiatives. Three to four key people from the most important regions and countries in the Microtechnology arena participate in the Summit. Delegates gather in a roundtable environment to address topics of special interest and discuss the progress and policies in each country and region.

Summit Objectives

1) Educate and deliver information to the attendees on the current state of the major divisions and integration of micro- and nanotechnology
2)Introduce the attendees to a network of businesses, universities, government agencies, and service providers focused on this technology
3)Provide a forum for world-wide networking with leaders in MicroNano Technologies (MNT)
4)Provide opportunities to showcase regional MNT efforts and facilities

The main sessions will feature reports on activity and initiatives within each region or country. Observers are also invited to attend these sessions, where representatives from these regions will follow their presentation with an interactive question and answer session from delegates

Delegates (and observers) are selected for participation through the Chief Delegate for their country or region.

Origin of Summit

The Micromachine Summit was first organized in 1995 by the Micromachine Center (Japan) with representatives from ten countries: Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, The Netherlands, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, and the United States.  At the 2nd Summit the Micromachine Center was appointed to the permanent secretariat of the Micromachine Summit.

The purpose of the 1st Micromachine Summit was to promote micromachines through the forthright discussion on various issues covering from R&D to commercialization by high-level representatives of universities, research institutes and private corporations in countries/regions being involved in micromachine technology.

Since then, just as small technologies have advanced around the world, the Summit has grown and moved around the globe, with locations in Montreux, Vancouver, Melbourne, Glasgow, Hiroshima, Maastricht, Glasgow, Grenoble, and Dallas.

The homepage of the Micromachine Summit is decided to be on the Micromachine Center's web site. The homepage displays past programs, participants, and chairman's summaries, in addition to plans for the staging of future summits.
