Fiber optics sensors

0303102-61

[DEFINITION]
A sensor that uses optical fiber.

[DESCRIPTION]
Various sensors that utilize optical fiber have been developed. Optical fiber has an excellent insulation property and is not disturbed by either electric or magnetic noise. Applications of optical fiber are classified into 1) the passive optical fiber probe that uses the fiber as a simple optical probe, 2) the transmission path type optical fiber probe that uses the fiber to transmit signals, and 3) the functional fiber sensor to detect changes in optical transmission characteristics by temperature or by pressure. The fiber optics sensor is one of the applications of micromachine technology where size reduction is expected in the future.
